A truly magnificent carving of a Roman warrior with marvelous secondary depictions of Medusa on his cape and an elaborate chariot and charioteer in motion on his helmet. Although difficult to detect at first, unfortunately, the team of horses that once adorned the front of his helmet have been lost . It appears, however, that the antique, 18 karat yellow gold frame post dates the damage of what is evidently an early and exceedingly fine classical Cameo. Signed 'AP' on reverse and priced about half in consideration of the slight damage.
