Jewelry Repair and Restoration Primer

It is not unusual for a treasured piece of jewelry to exceed its useful life; especially when you and previous generations have worn a beloved piece for numerous decades, let alone for a hundred years (the definition of "antique" is 100 years of age).

Over the lifetime of a vintage piece of jewelry it is common to have minor repairs which address normal wear and tear, sizings and alterations. Unfortunately, work done on vintage and antique jewelry is of extremely uneven quality. From an expert or collector’s perspective it is painful to behold a hasty, poor quality repair. A proper repair should be, if not undetectable, detectable only by a trained eye.

The restoration of antique and estate jewelry requires a thorough knowledge of earlier hand fabrication and manufacturing techniques and a great deal of patience and dedication on behalf of the jeweler. In addition to having many decades of experience, our chosen craftsmen possess an educated passion for the artistry and history of master jewelry making techniques.
