Victorian Onyx, Black Enamel and Seed Pearl Earrings

These intriguing antique amphora-motif earrings were originally worn during the Victorian period as mourning jewelry. These days, however, they make a sophisticated fashion statement and a dramatic compliment to your basic black wardrobe. The three-dimensional amphoras are hand carved in onyx with rose gold and seed pearl decorative overlays; the fanciful handles are crafted in 9 karat rose gold (hence the earrings are most likely of British origin), and the tops are rendered in black enamel and seed pearls (with enamel chipping on one earring). 1 1/4 inches long, original screw-backs (convertible) and very cool - circa 1875.
