Large and striking Victorian carved shell cameo brooch depicting the god of wine and intoxication - Bacchus. Bacchus is expertly carved in profile with a crown of grapes and grape leaf motifs set atop his flowing hair. The cameo is set into a gorgeous frame enameled in rich cobalt blue with a scrolling foliate motif. The sides of the frame detach originally allowing this piece to be worn as a bracelet. The pin measures 3 inches tall by 2 3/4 inches wide. Enamel restoration at top and bottom of frame.
