Victorian Enamel Pearl and Diamond Mourning Locket

A sentimental memento from the mid-nineteenth century. A weighty 18K yellow gold puffed oval locket is decorated on its face with a pair of natural pearls and an old mine-cut pear-shape diamond hanging from golden vines against a black enamel background. The hand-engraved inscription on the inside reads: In memory of Robert Dennistoun Campbell who died 3rd Decr 1859 aged 44years, and of his infant daughter Anna Mary Roberta who died the 5th of May 1858 aged 17 days. What was formerly a memorial memento is now a hip and striking fashion statement. 1 inch by 7/8 inch.
