A marvelous late-nineteenth century silver and multi-colored agate figural brooch, depicting the garter that holds argyle hose in place for uniformed members of the Order of the Garter, the oldest and highest order of chivalry in the United Kingdom. Beautifully handcrafted and hand-engraved with a thistle motif, the national emblem of Scotland. Measures 2 1/8 inches by 2 inches.
