Laser Welder in a Goldsmith's Workstation.

Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A powerful, coherent, straight-line beam of light, very narrow in diameter which, when strong enough, can be used to cut through solid substances. Lasers can be strong enough to cut through diamond and is more precise and much safer than previous hand sawing and cleaving techniques. Lasers are also sometimes used to “clean out” dark inclusions in diamonds. Lasers can also be used to place microscopic inscriptions and identification marks on diamonds and other gemstones.

Laser welders for joining jewelry components have recently become a popular tool with jewelers. The precision joins are unparalleled by any other method. Repairs can be made invisibly and precisely without the telltale globs of solder so familiar on older repairs.
