Chenier is the name for hollow tubing used in jewelry making. Also known as hollow or joint wire, this tubing is used to construct hinges and joints for jewelry items such as lockets, watches, bracelets and safety catches. Seamed chenier is formed by bending a strip of flat metal plate and drawing it through a drawplate to the desired diameter. Seamless chenier is created using a metal disc that has been punched until it resembles a cup, then drawn to the appropriate diameter.
