Pebble jewelry refers to jewelry set with polished gemstones found in Scotland. Polished agate and granite were cut into shapes and set in mosaic patterns in silver (occasionally gold) jewelry, often using many colors in one piece. It came into fashion after Queen Victoria bought the Balmoral Castle estate in 1848.
