Polychrome is the combination of the Greek words “poly” and “chroma”, meaning resp. “many” and “saturation”. Polychrome enamels are enamels with many colors such as can be seen on some watch dials, Swiss jewelry plaques as well as on Renaissance and Holbeinesque jewelry. The opposite is monochrome enamel or grisaille.
