Pyrite is an opaque yellow mineral with a metallic luster.  This mineral is often nicknamed “fool’s gold” because of its resemblance to gold. Its cubic crystal system is evident in its outward appearance and specimens are often cube-shaped. This distinctive form helps with “sight identification” as it is quite different from the nugget appearance of gold.
