Ryan & Laura

Uncooperative dolphins notwithstanding, Ryan Hedspeth’s romantic proposal to Laura Taylor went swimmingly well. How could it not? A beautiful spring morning, the idyllic island of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, and a boat just for two created the perfect setting for Ryan’s plan that was two weeks in the making.

Ryan slipped the stunning 1920s Art Deco ring into his pocket while Laura was distracted readying their fishing gear. He declared his undying love, dropped to one knee, and asked Laura to marry him. After what seemed like an interminably long pause, she said, “Yes!”

In a perfect world, the dolphins (which they frequently see while out on the water) would have made a timely appearance. Even without the playful mammals, Ryan and Laura popped the champagne and basked in the first moments of their new engagement.

Laura and Ryan weren’t the only ones celebrating. The day that Ryan proposed was also Mother’s Day. When the couple called their mothers to share their blissful news, they were both thrilled, saying that they could not have asked for a better gift!
