The honeycomb motif became popular in the 1930s through bracelet designs by Van Cleef & Arpels. The original was named the “Ludo” bracelet after its designer Louis “Ludovic” Arpels and it was actually inspired by some of the early Victorian gold mesh garter bracelets.
