A hair ornament is anything decorative that one would wear on one’s head. This would include crowns, tiaras, barrettes, aigrettes, combs, bandeaus and others. Some of these serve an additional purpose – holding the hairstyle in place.
Georgian hair ornaments had a myriad of motifs including naturalistic, Greek key, and classical themes from antiquity. Diamonds, Pearls or cut steel sat atop the skyscraper hairstyles and wigs so popular at the time. The aigrette was also often found tucked among the curls along with bejeweled floral, fauna, celestial bodies, and insects, often mounted en tremblant.
