A locket is a closed memento receptacle with a hinge in which a photograph, daguerreotype, or portrait miniature could be held. Sometimes the hair of the person to be held close was inserted instead of an image. They were enhanced with gemstones, enamel, engraving and other decorative techniques. Lockets are usually suspended from a chain around the neck as a pendant or as a charm or fob on a bracelet or watchchain.
