Plaque de cou (from French: plaque = badge/plaque, cou = neck) ascribed to a central rectangular ornament, usually jeweled, that forms the integral decorative element in a collier de chien or dog collar necklace. Popular from late 17th through early 20th century, the plaque can sit atop a ribbon or be held in place by multiple rows of small pearls or other beads.
