ABOUT THIS NECKLACE

An Art Nouveau treasure, the centerpiece of this beautifully detailed and masterfully handcrafted necklace is highlighted by the colors* of the Suffragette Movement of the early 20th Century: purple, green, and white. The focal point is a clear, bright purple amethyst (weighing 4.65 carats) bezel-set inside a stylized diamond frame, encircled by a latticework design and surrounded by an intricate pattern of whiplash and flower motifs set with seed and natural pearls. This exquisite design extends on either side and is further accented by four faceted spring-green peridots, with a total weight of 1.30 carats. An oval amethyst dangling from a lovely pearl flower adds the finishing flourish to this splendid and colorful jewel. Hand fabricated in 14K gold. Measures 17 inches long, center drop is 2 inches long. *This quote is courtesy of Antique Jewelry University (AJU): "Purple, as everyone knows, is the royal color. It stands for the royal blood that flows in the veins of every suffragette, the instinct of freedom and dignity...white stands for purity in private and public life...green is the color of hope and the emblem of spring."

About Art Nouveau Jewelry

Looking to go organic? Bummed out (with good reason) by the Industrial Revolution, Art Nouveau makers embraced the natural world and a return to the hand-craftsmanship of an earlier time. Their overlap with both the Victorian and Edwardian eras resulted in a great deal of cross-pollination. Though relatively short in its purest form, Art Nouveau’s flowing lines continued to weave their way into fine jewelry.

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
