ABOUT THIS NECKLACE

Pearls--they inspire such colorful imaginations of the mind. In ancient Japan, pearls were thought to be the tears of fanciful creatures such as mermaids or nymphs. While we're not sure if Japanese entrepreneur, Mikimoto Kōkichi*, had any of this in mind when he opened his first pearl shop in 1899, true pearl aficionados throughout the years have desired to add a strand of Mikimoto pearls to their jewel boxes. This is the perfect strand. Fifty-five ultra-lustrous, nearly perfectly round cultured pearls measuring between 7.5 and 8 mm are knotted together to form this 19-inch necklace, finished with a decorative 18K gold clasp accented with a small pearl. Classic and current--always. *Mikimoto Kōkichi was a Japanese entrepreneur who is credited with creating the first cultured pearl and subsequently starting the cultured pearl industry with the establishment of his luxury pearl company Mikimoto.

About Estate Jewelry

Though it calls to mind grand manor houses in the English countryside, “estate” is just a fancy way of describing any piece of jewelry with a previous owner. That’s pretty much everything in our collection. We tend to use “estate” to refer to pieces in our collection with a more modern or contemporary design, or vintage-inspired designs. These perennial gems are selected in harmony with our original antique and vintage pieces…they’re just a little bit younger!

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
