Victorian Blue Enamel and Opal Snake Necklace
Queen Victoria loved serpentine jewels. The sinuous reptile does lend itself to some rather ravishing jewelry designs as this stunning necklace proves. A 14K gold chain, with links remarkably similar to actual snake scales, forms the body of this bold and colorful creature. His intensely vivid cobalt blue enameled head is adorned with tiny table cut diamonds and opals displaying electric hues of blue, orange and green. Ever alert, he keeps watch with gleaming cabochon garnet eyes. As is sometimes the case with well-loved and worn antique jewelry, this piece shows some slight wear (on the enamel, abrasion on one of the garnets, and dents on the underside of the head). In 14K gold, it measures 15 inches long.
