Victorian Turquoise, Diamond and Enamel Snake Brooch
Striking! (to say the least), the tail of this this spectacular serpent, hand fabricated in 18K yellow gold, glossy black enamel, rose-cut diamonds, and turquoise, is entirely articulated up to his/her head. Speaking of its head, the crowning pear shape turquoise is framed all around with sizable, glittering rose-cut diamonds of various shapes and sizes (approximately 1.50 carats total). Cabochon ruby eyes (probably synthetic but original to the piece) and spiky golden fangs add the finishing touches to this fantastic creature - circa 1885. About 2 5/8 inches across (but the tail moves).
