Edwardian Diamond, Pearl and Synthetic Sapphire Necklace
ABOUT THIS NECKLACE
There's a lot going on in this exquisitely detailed Edwardian jewel, delicately hand fabricated in platinum over 18K gold during the first or second decade of the twentieth century. The horizontal navette-shaped wreath motif centerpiece shimmers with a pair of tiny lustrous pearl strands and glitters with tiny rose-cut diamonds, all of which are accented with rich royal blue synthetic* calibre sapphires, while a trio of bezel-set diamond knife-wire drops dance below. A truly breathtaking and finely made feminine lavalière. The original platinum chain measures 18 inches. *Back in the early-20th-century, due to their color consistency and flawless clarity, synthetic sapphires were considered a modern improvement over their natural counterparts, their differences discernible only with a microscope.
