ABOUT THIS RING

A glamorous and gorgeous knock-out of a diamond ring by the preeminent Parisian joaillier and New York jeweler to the carriage trade - Van Cleef & Arpels. A dazzling icy-white emerald-cut diamond, weighing 2.48 carat (accompanied by a GIA report stating D color - VVS2 clarity), is beautifully complemented by gleaming baguette diamonds on each side and on the shoulders - adorned with the subtle hand-engraved details of its lustrous platinum band. A chic, stunning and sophisticated show stopper. Total diamond weight, 2.89 carats. Circa 1930's Art Deco. Signed and numbered VCA. Currently ring size 6 1/4+. Since our customers often inquire about the personal history of a piece (and we seldom have a good one), here's a great one!:

We purchased this ring from the daughter of a 97 year old woman who is still alive. She was interned with her father, a Japanese scholar, and her sister during WWII. Her father instilled in her the value of an education and she excelled in school while interred and was the valedictorian of her class. She and her sister were released early from internment and sent to Minneapolis where they were told there were jobs. There were none. She and her sister decided to try NY and arrived with a suitcase and $100. They worked as maids while she applied for college. She got a full scholarship to Hunter College in NY. At that time Japanese Americans did not have a lot of places to socialize except the Jewish Cultural Center, where she met her husband, a decorated (silver star and purple heart) WWII hero who was a student at Yale. They married with a promise ring. He started a business importing orchids to NY City and became quite successful. To honor the birth of their son he purchased this ring from VCA to replace the small starter ring he first gave his wife. She was a very elegant lady and dressed in the style of Jacqueline Kennedy and this ring was a perfect match for her.

How to Pair Your Wedding Band

You found your ideal, beautiful, one-of-a-kind antique or vintage engagement ring… and then realized that you need a wedding band to go with it. Pairing the two can be tricky, since vintage engagement rings rarely come with matching bands, and many modern bands don’t accommodate vintage shapes and designs. So we created a line of vintage-style wedding bands, modeled after original pieces from our collection.

About Art Deco Jewelry

Sleek and modern, Art Deco design brought jewelry into the machine age. Yet these stylish pieces still found room for the fine forms and lines of previous eras within their elegant architecture. In particular, we see many peaceful co-habitations of Edwardian and Art Deco styles together.

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
