From our Antique Jewelry University, an observation of Pliny the Elder: ... Pliny described a sculpted marble lion in the tomb of King Hermias on Cyprus overlooking the sea. The lion's eyes were fashioned out of natural emeralds that were so bright they scared away all the fish. The fisherman replaced the eyes with common stones and the fish returned. Although they are surely as equally enthralling as those in the sculpture, the 4.00 carats of gorgeous, glowing, electric green Colombian emeralds (even our high-definition pictures can't capture their vibrant color) in these exquisite earrings do not scare--they captivate. Framed by octagonal halos of glittering modern European cut diamonds, they are crowned with diamond-set stylized bell shapes and suspend from bezel-set European cuts by way of diamond-frosted links. A breathtaking composition of color and light, hand fabricated in platinum in the classic and enduring Art Deco style. Total diamond weight, 1.35 carats.
