ABOUT THIS NECKLACE
In 1820, Henry David Thoreau (yes, of Walden fame) and his father created the #2 pencil. Not to be outdone, in 1822, Sampson Mordan and John Issac Hawkins patented the first metal mechanical pencil. Sometime later, a masterful craftsman during the Art Nouveau period went a few steps further to elevate the art of writing by designing this exquisite 18K gold mechanical instrument--embellished with a mistletoe motif no less. And while the original lead is long gone (we have inserted a shaved-down pencil point), its sleek form makes a most lovely, and intriguing, pendant. Hand fabricated in 18K, circa 1900. Chain measures 18 inches.
