Turning away from machine-produced jewelry, the Arts & Crafts movement--often influenced by the aesthetic of the Far East--focused on the artistry of handmade pieces rather than the intrinsic value, and this jewel is exemplary of that philosophy. Topped by a design evocative of a pagoda, the elegant openwork pendant, measuring a striking 3 inches long, is adorned with a single sparkling European-cut diamond, luminous natural and cultured pearls, and tiny diamond-shaped dangles set with bright blue sapphires. The light and lovely assemblage is embellished below with an elongated teardrop dotted with pearls and one sapphire. Exquisite. Circa 1900. Hand fabricated in 10K gold. The 14K gold chain measures 16 inches.
