Boston Arts & Crafts Pearl, Sapphire and Diamond Ring
30-1-13464
ABOUT THIS RING
Jewelers of the turn-of-the-century Arts & Crafts movement were averse to the dehumanizing effects of industrialization, returning instead to artisanal handcraftsmanship, and those in Boston were known for creating especially colorful jewelry and for their use of gold (as opposed to silver). This ring--a truly rare find--is an example of their distinctive artistry. The ring is not signed but many were not. There were many students and they were influenced by their particular schools, so it is not always possible to attribute a precise maker. Hand fabricated in 14K gold, luminous cultured pearls, deep river-blue sapphires, and single-cut diamonds glittering in stylized flower settings, are arranged in arresting asymmetry, creating a lively landscape of gems across your finger. Total sapphire weight, .40 carat. Currently ring size 5 1/2.
