ABOUT THIS RING

This early and intriguing antique ring, most likely from Georgian England and bearing a French import mark, glows front and center with a bright-blue foil-backed sapphire flanked left and right with a sparkling antique cushion-cut diamond, the pair weighing .80 carats. Due to its traditional and time-appropriate flat cut and foilback setting, it is difficult to determine either the weight or color of the sapphire. However, if it were a modern square emerald-cut gemstone it would weigh approximately 3.00 carats - so it's safe to assume at least 1.00 to 1.50 carats. A stunning, rare and regal early-nineteenth century jewel. Please note that this delicate antique ring is a 5 3/4, cannot be sized, and should not be exposed to water. To be worn with care, not recommended for daily wear.

Georgian Jewelry

True antiques, Georgian jewels are the earliest pieces in our collection. Lovely foil-backed stones in mixed-metal settings were made to shine by candlelight over dinner and in the drawing rooms of their genteel wearers. Many pieces were made in memory of loved ones or as “memento mori”—literal reminders of mortality that Georgians saw as sophisticated, rather than morbid. While the delicacy of Georgian era settings has been replaced by more modern methods, the cuts and styles have continued to fascinate jewelry lovers.

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
