ABOUT THIS NECKLACE

A Georgian fob, oh my! Among the oldest jewelry in our collection, Georgian pieces are rare and oh so wonderful. This weighty fob is intricately embellished with a lush floral motif, set with a gleaming pale yellow 9.00 carat cushion-cut citrine, and suspends from a shimmering 31 1/2-inch flat cable chain. Antique jewelry (at least 100 years in age, but this one closer to 150-175 years old) sometimes presents intriguing and unique characteristics that appear as a result of their journey through time. In this fob, betwixt the citrine and its backing are mysterious fragments that move about creating a small, changing 'landscape' of sorts. A truly cool and captivating collectable. Crafted in 9K gold fob (hence most likely of British origin), 10K chain (newer) with 14K clasp.

Georgian Jewelry

True antiques, Georgian jewels are the earliest pieces in our collection. Lovely foil-backed stones in mixed-metal settings were made to shine by candlelight over dinner and in the drawing rooms of their genteel wearers. Many pieces were made in memory of loved ones or as “memento mori”—literal reminders of mortality that Georgians saw as sophisticated, rather than morbid. While the delicacy of Georgian era settings has been replaced by more modern methods, the cuts and styles have continued to fascinate jewelry lovers.

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
