ABOUT THIS RING

Pick your poison—and put it in this ring. Originating in India, poison rings were sometimes used by a king to avoid possible torture upon capture; he would take himself out before anyone else could. Apparently, for Lucrezia Borgia, an Italian noblewoman and the only daughter of Pope Alexander VI, it was quite handy for disposing of political rivals. Aside from these dark purposes, poison rings were also used to hold cologne, locks of hair, or portraits. This one, hand fabricated in 14K gold, depicts a queen and king and is brightened by vibrant royal-blue enamel and twinkling rose-cut diamonds. Scrolled diamond-set shoulders (one is a round brilliant replacement) and a ribbed shank add distinctive detail to this intriguing jewel. How you use it is entirely up to you (we assume no liability). Currently ring size 5.

Georgian Jewelry

True antiques, Georgian jewels are the earliest pieces in our collection. Lovely foil-backed stones in mixed-metal settings were made to shine by candlelight over dinner and in the drawing rooms of their genteel wearers. Many pieces were made in memory of loved ones or as “memento mori”—literal reminders of mortality that Georgians saw as sophisticated, rather than morbid. While the delicacy of Georgian era settings has been replaced by more modern methods, the cuts and styles have continued to fascinate jewelry lovers.

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
