Louise Francoise de La Baume Le Blanc, Duchesse de La Valliere (1644-1710), was the mistress of King Louis XIV and the namesake for one of the loveliest styles of jewelry--the lavaliere necklace. This captivating confection, hand fabricated in 18K gold, circa 1840s, gleams with varying shades of resplendent foil-backed precious pink topaz stones, two of them set in a sculptural design of graceful scrolls, while three, set in fancy teardrop settings, dangle prettily below. A rare and ravishing Georgian/early-Victorian confection. Total topaz weight, 3.10 carats. Chain adjusts from 16-18 inches.

Georgian Jewelry
True antiques, Georgian jewels are the earliest pieces in our collection. Lovely foil-backed stones in mixed-metal settings were made to shine by candlelight over dinner and in the drawing rooms of their genteel wearers. Many pieces were made in memory of loved ones or as “memento mori”—literal reminders of mortality that Georgians saw as sophisticated, rather than morbid. While the delicacy of Georgian era settings has been replaced by more modern methods, the cuts and styles have continued to fascinate jewelry lovers.
As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
