Late-Edwardian Black Opal, Pearl, and Diamond Necklace
ABOUT THIS NECKLACE
An utterly enchanting and mesmerizing gemstone, a 14.00 carat pear-shaped black 'lightening ridge' opal, explodes with a phantasmagoria of brilliant psychedelic colors--predominantly cobalt blue and neon green with flashes of fiery red, orange, and yellow--in this exquisite late-Edwardian-era necklace dating back to the first decade of the twentieth century. The opal is elegantly presented in a frame of gently graduated lustrous white natural pearls, crowned with a bright-white and sparkling old mine-cut diamond and culminating in a dancing pear-shaped diamond drop (added later), all of which suspends from a 16 1/2-inch 18K white gold chain dotted with 77 small natural seed pearls. Breathtaking. Hand fabricated in 18K white gold, old mine cut diamond is set in platinum. Condition note: opal is moderately crazed--slight cracks due to water loss--otherwise, the price would be significantly higher.
