ABOUT THIS BROOCH

At Lang, we are known for our special species of certain critters--like this opulent opal and diamond turtle. This little guy is a wonder of color and sparkle, his shell centered by .65 carat opal of kaleidoscopic hues, encircled by a company of icy white round brilliant-cut diamonds rimmed with 14 round opals. His head is a pear-shaped opal and, although his diamond-set legs might not get him where he's going any faster (your dress, lapel, hat), he sure will look fabulous once he gets there. Total diamond weight - .88 carat, total opal weight - 1.75 carats. Hand fabricated in 14K gold (opal settings), 10K gold (under gallery), 18K gold (diamond settings), and base metal (pin stem). Condition note: several opals have minor wear (small chips) commensurate with the age of the piece.

About Mid-Century Jewelry

Mid-Century jewelers gave the Victorians a run for their money when it came to variety—with the added bonus of big, bold gems in every shape, size, and color. Themes of previous eras were made fabulous enough to match the optimism of the post-war world. Transitional pieces bridged the gap between the first and second half of the 20th century.

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
