The beauty of antique and vintage diamonds, compared to their modern counterparts, are the individual characteristics which distinguishes each and every stone. Rather than strictly adhering to cookie-cutter formulas, the diamond cutters of the past viewed each rough diamond as an ancient Greek or Roman sculptor viewed a rough piece of marble, and proceeded to fashion it according to the dictates of nature and his own artistic impulses to make the most beautiful and valuable stone possible. In these earrings, both diamonds were cut when styles and technology made the transition from mine-cut to European-cut, and one is fashioned with four slightly flatter sides (a bit more like an old-mine cushion-cut), while the other is more perfectly round. And there you have it - two sparkling carats of enchanting late-19th century diamonds radiating from within their original, lovely antique settings finely crafted in yellow gold. Fitted with new 14k yellow posts and backs so you can wear them everywhere and with everything. Just over 1/4 inch.

About Victorian Jewelry

The eclectic Victorians didn’t limit themselves when it came to motifs and themes—if it struck their fancy, they turned it into jewelry. Sweet and sentimental with a distinct romantic streak, Victorian gems expanded upon their Georgian predecessors. The array of styles that blossomed (sometimes quite literally) during this era endure to this day.

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
