ABOUT THIS BROOCH
A youthful Bacchus, Roman god of wine and revelry, comes alive in this exquisitely carved, thick, high-relief coral cameo, in rich reddish-orange coral. The cameo is elegantly presented in a restrained 14 karat yellow gold frame adorned with a rope motif border. A small section of the wreath, on the right side, is apparently missing, but has been smoothed over by a lapidary (and the flaw is reflected in the price). This splendid and stunning jewel, from nineteenth-century Italy, measures 1 13/16 inches high by 1 1/2 inches across.
