Austro-Hungarian Floral Opal Spray Brooch/Pendant, Circa 1867-1872
ABOUT THIS JEWELRY
From a vanished (Austro-Hungarian) empire, this fabulous 19th-century corsage brooch is a bountiful bouquet for all time. Measuring a quite conspicuous 3 by 2 1/8 inches, the jubilant arrangement overflows with 134 glowing multichromatic opals, including two lavishly petaled blooms accented with natural seed pearl-tipped stamens. Artfully hand-fabricated in gilded silver, it is wearable as a brooch and necklace. Total opal weight, 8.25 carats. The darkened silver chain measures 18 inches.
