ABOUT THIS NECKLACE

Inextricably linked with Cartier, the panther, according to their website, represents ".. a wild, untamable animal whose symbolism and elegance have reigned over the Maison's creativity since its first appearance in 1914." Rendered in the classic Cartier Panthère pose, the sleek black cat--crafted in silverium*--drapes over a golden loop in a relaxed yet vigilant posture, and suspends from a 31-inch silver and 18K yellow gold chain. A striking icon. *Silverium, which was trademarked in 1987 by Cartier, is a type of blackened silver that is alloyed with 18ct gold. It was originally created for the company’s mascot, the black panther, to achieve the shiny black coat. Vintage 1970s.

About Estate Jewelry

Though it calls to mind grand manor houses in the English countryside, “estate” is just a fancy way of describing any piece of jewelry with a previous owner. That’s pretty much everything in our collection. We tend to use “estate” to refer to pieces in our collection with a more modern or contemporary design, or vintage-inspired designs. These perennial gems are selected in harmony with our original antique and vintage pieces…they’re just a little bit younger!

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
