English Victorian Ruby and Diamond Ring, c.1908
ABOUT THIS RING
A captivating confection of color, sparkle, and flourishes. In this charming and delightfully detailed late-Victorian/Edwardian finger-hugger, a cheery company of cherry-red rubies and lively antique single-cut diamonds form a bright diagonal dash in the center of a lovely leaf-like shape, while curlicues and a collet-set ruby create a cool design east and west. Total natural ruby weight, .25 carat. Hand fabricated in 18K gold. From England, 1908. Currently ring size 7 1/2. Note: One of the rubies is synthetic and was likely set as a replacement sometime in the 1920s or 30s. During that period, synthetic gemstones were often used for their flawless clarity and color consistency, their virtually undetectable differences discernible only with a microscope.
