Engraved Buckle Bangle Bracelet, English c.1915
ABOUT THIS BRACELET
From Chester, England, circa 1915, a lovely late-Victorian bangle, lightly rendered in gleaming 9k yellow gold and masterfully hand engraved featuring the time-honored buckle motif which originates from the British Order of the Garter. This comes courtesy of Antique Jewelry University (AJU): A popular motif for bracelets, rings and brooches throughout the Georgian and Victorian era paid homage to the Order of the Garter. Styled after the garters worn by the prestigious recipients of this oldest of British chivalry awards, the motif appeared as the surround for brooches and as central design elements for rings and bracelets. Buckles were prominently featured as a result of their functional as well as decorative role in jewelry design.
