ABOUT THIS NECKLACE

One of the rarest varieties of chrysoberyl, alexandrite—with its fascinating color change characteristic—has been described as "emerald by day, ruby by night." Originally found in Russia's Ural mountains in the 1830s, it is a highly coveted gemstone. A captivating chameleon, the 2.61-carat oval alexandrite in this estate pendant shifts between a lovely teal-green and a grayish purple, while a halo of round brilliant-cut diamonds adds crisp, sparkling, icy-white contrast. Total diamond weight, .97 carat. Crafted in platinum, it suspends from a silky box chain that adjusts to 18 inches. GIA Gemological Report states: Natural. Madagascar origin.

About Estate Jewelry

Though it calls to mind grand manor houses in the English countryside, “estate” is just a fancy way of describing any piece of jewelry with a previous owner. That’s pretty much everything in our collection. We tend to use “estate” to refer to pieces in our collection with a more modern or contemporary design, or vintage-inspired designs. These perennial gems are selected in harmony with our original antique and vintage pieces…they’re just a little bit younger!

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
