ABOUT THIS NECKLACE

Glorious blue stones, discovered by herdsmen near the Merelani Hills in Tanzania after a wildfire, soon fell into the hands of a merchant named Manuel D'Souza. Though initially mistaken for sapphires, the British Museum and Harvard University confirmed that the stone was, in fact, an unknown gemstone and named it blue zoisite. Fortunately, when Tiffany & Co. recognized the appeal of the gem, it was renamed Tanzanite to reflect its origin (the only place in the world where it is found) and was introduced to the public in 1968. This estate rivière presents 44 oval tanzanites, each imbued with an enchanting and varying shade of violet-blue, interspersed with glittering round brilliant-cut diamonds. A breathtaking beauty in blue. Total diamond weight - 1.53 carats, total tanzanite weight - 22.37 carats. Crafted in platinum, it measures 15 1/2 inches.

About Estate Jewelry

Though it calls to mind grand manor houses in the English countryside, “estate” is just a fancy way of describing any piece of jewelry with a previous owner. That’s pretty much everything in our collection. We tend to use “estate” to refer to pieces in our collection with a more modern or contemporary design, or vintage-inspired designs. These perennial gems are selected in harmony with our original antique and vintage pieces…they’re just a little bit younger!

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
