French Antique Demantoid Garnet and Diamond Necklace
ABOUT THIS NECKLACE
Vibrant, vivid, brilliant, resplendent. These are just some of the adjectives that try their best to describe the gorgeous and gloriously apple-green stones in this exquisite 19th century necklace. Forty-five electrifying demantoid garnets--very rare and originally found in the Ural mountains of Russia--glow all along a wreath-like chain, dotted with old mine-cut diamonds, that transitions to diamond-set links, which connect to a cluster clasp of diamonds and a single garnet. The irrepressibly colorful and sparkling necklace culminates in a dangle-centered openwork diamond and garnet drop, topped by a lovely bow 'knotted' by a bright .30 carat old mine-cut. A remarkable, ravishing and collectible jewel. From France, circa 1890. Total diamond weight - 3.24 carats, total demantoid garnet weight - 3.25 carats. Hand fabricated in darkened silver over 18K gold, it measures just over 15 1/2 inches.
