French Cabochon Garnet, Diamond and Pearl Lavalière, c.1837-1847
ABOUT THIS NECKLACE
Created in France sometime during the 2nd Republic and 2nd Empire, this wonderful work of wearable history would be right at home in a French Royal portrait painting. Centering on a gleaming rich raspberry-red cabochon (aka carbuncle) garnet, the intriguing gemstone is elegantly framed in 18K rosy-yellow gold lattice work, beaded around the perimeter, and studded all around with glittering rose-cut diamonds set in silver rosettes. A dangling natural pearl drop and a matching bale add the finishing flourishes to this ravishing and regal French jewel. Hand fabricated. Total diamond weight, .25 carat. The 18-inch chain is 10K rose gold.
