French Second Empire Dangle Earrings
ABOUT THESE EARRINGS
Napolean III, the nephew of France's first emperor, Napolean Bonaparte, ruled France during The Second Empire from 1848 - 1870 and was given high credit for the rebuilding of Paris with broad boulevards, striking public buildings, and elegant residential districts. These distinctive 19th Century earrings, converted from a pair of cuff links, hail from this French era of beautification. Crafted (unusually) in rich 22K gold with a gleaming satiny finish, they are exquisitely hand engraved with a quatrefoil design that frames the fanciful monogram, "LD," while openwork scroll designs add the finishing flourish. Magnifique!
