ABOUT THIS BROOCH
Magnificent Victorian artistry is in full flower in this sensational and sizable (2 3/16 by 1 1/8 inches) nineteenth century brooch highlighting an unusual and entrancing boulder opal. Brilliant flashes of color - fiery red, yellow and orange and cool blue and green - burst through the chocolate brown matrix. Equally captivating, however, is the fabulous 18K gold frame ornamented with ultra-fine twisted rope and bead work. The pin mechanism was long ago retrofitted with soft solder due to the heat sensitivity of opals, and we decided to leave well enough alone.
