ABOUT THIS BROOCH

And at 2 and 1/2 inches by 2 and 3/8 inches, quite a sizable 'miniature' it is! Edwin Booth, the greatest American actor of his day, and brother of the reviled presidential assassin John Wilkes Booth, and costumed as his most notable character - Brutus, in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar - is colorfully hand painted on porcelain and handsomely presented in a twisted gold-filled frame. Original vintage burgundy velvet and gold colored box by 'Hilborn-Hamburger, Inc. Military Jewelers - New York' which has the following to commend them: Passaic, NJ: (May-31-07) A federal lawsuit was filed against Hilborn-Hamburger Inc. of Passaic, a major New Jersey military insignia supplier, alleging that the company provided thousands of cheap and defective medals, rank badges and other uniform insignia to the US armed forces. Hilborn-Hamburger provided insignia ranging from the coveted dolphin breast pins worn by US submariners and the "eagle and globe" collar pins of the US Marine Corps, to the special badges earned by US Navy astronauts. The suit claimed that the company's business polices were plain dishonest and deceptive and that the men and women of the armed services who earn the honor to wear these insignia deserved better. Hilborn-Hamburger Inc. was accused of substituting various cheaper plated metal for brass, and other less-expensive materials as part of more than $12 million worn of insignia items sold to the military since 1999. In a settlement reached, the company agreed to pay more than $251,000 to settle federal charges.

About Victorian Jewelry

The eclectic Victorians didn’t limit themselves when it came to motifs and themes—if it struck their fancy, they turned it into jewelry. Sweet and sentimental with a distinct romantic streak, Victorian gems expanded upon their Georgian predecessors. The array of styles that blossomed (sometimes quite literally) during this era endure to this day.

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
