ABOUT THIS RING

Exquisite in form, the *Belcher setting, despite its somewhat infelicitous name, is a beauty indeed. In this Victorian ring, gently curved prongs extend from a sculptural mounting to embrace a crisply sparkling .68 carat bright white old mine-cut diamond, all together creating a jewel of understated elegance. Crafted in 14K gold, currently ring size 8 1/4. * From AJU: A belcher ring has a flush setting, similar to a gypsy ring, whereby the prongs are cut into the mounting. The stone is placed within a recess created in the shank and secured by the carved out prongs. This results in the table of the stone being level with the metal surface. A belcher shank has a “D” shaped cross-section. They can be solid or hollow. Gypsy rings and belcher rings are typical examples. The name “belcher” may come from Jem Belcher, the English bare knuckle boxing champion between 1800 and 1805.

How to Pair Your Wedding Band

You found your ideal, beautiful, one-of-a-kind antique or vintage engagement ring… and then realized that you need a wedding band to go with it. Pairing the two can be tricky, since vintage engagement rings rarely come with matching bands, and many modern bands don’t accommodate vintage shapes and designs. So we created a line of vintage-style wedding bands, modeled after original pieces from our collection.

About Victorian Jewelry

The eclectic Victorians didn’t limit themselves when it came to motifs and themes—if it struck their fancy, they turned it into jewelry. Sweet and sentimental with a distinct romantic streak, Victorian gems expanded upon their Georgian predecessors. The array of styles that blossomed (sometimes quite literally) during this era endure to this day.

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
