ABOUT THIS BROOCH
Inspired by embroidery, reputedly of the style found in traditional peasant garments of the 18th century, cannetille is a technique that uses finely twisted wire or thinly hammered sheets to create intricate decorative appliques. This elegant Victorian brooch beautifully displays this demanding technique along the length of its rectangular shape, creating a splendid backdrop--and frame-- for a gleaming 4.00 carat watercolor-purple amethyst cabochon. Hand fabricated in 18K gold (pin stem is 10K), circa 1880.
