ABOUT THIS BROOCH
A young and handsome Roman Centurion is depicted in profile in this expertly carved white opal displaying scattered flashes of orange, yellow, green and blue. The cameo is presented in an antique rose gold oval frame decorated with black enamel stripes and a decorative leaf motif on each end. The opal is bezel set into a revolving inner frame to accommodate a picture locket (now lost) on the reverse side. Due to its age (at least 150 years old), the opal has moderate crazing. An exceedingly rare and unusual Victorian treasure. Two inches wide by 1 and 5/8 inches high.
