ABOUT THIS NECKLACE

All manner of details--tiny twisted wire appliques, gold spheres, scallops--decorate the striking frame that surrounds the glowing cabochon garnet at the center of this kinetic Victorian locket pendant. The gleaming stone, with its intriguing pinkish-brown-red hue, is embellished with an eight-ray star, shimmering in the middle with a small seed pearl. A fluid fringe of articulated gold 'threads' shimmies and swings below. A sassy one. Opens on the reverse to reveal a solid-backed locket compartment. Crafted in velvety 14K gold, circa 1880, it suspends from an 18-inch chain. Condition note: the pearl shows some wear commensurate with the age of the piece.
