ABOUT THIS NECKLACE

Red and green are complementary colors and they are used with fanciful flair in this lively Victorian *Holbeinesque jewel. Centered by a glimmering raspberry-red emerald-cut ruby and four bright cushion-cut diamonds, the pendant is ringed with Burmese rubies and diamonds and embellished front and back with clovers, scrolls, and a floral motif in bright red and green enamel. Touches of deep, glossy cobalt blue enamel add a dash of dark contrast. The artful assemblage suspends from a gleaming 9ct. 18-inch Belcher chain via an openwork trèfle bail, while a trio of luminous natural teardrop pearls dance below. Total diamond weight - 1.05 carats, total ruby weight - 1.40 carats. Hand fabricated in 18K gold. *Holbeinesque (“in the manner of Holbein”) jewelry became popular around 1870 and can be characterized by a large oval gemstone in the center of polychrome enamel work. These neo-renaissance items were inspired by the designs of the famous German artist Hans Holbein the younger (c. 1497-1543).

About Victorian Jewelry

The eclectic Victorians didn’t limit themselves when it came to motifs and themes—if it struck their fancy, they turned it into jewelry. Sweet and sentimental with a distinct romantic streak, Victorian gems expanded upon their Georgian predecessors. The array of styles that blossomed (sometimes quite literally) during this era endure to this day.

Jewelry Care

As with anything of value, especially sentimental value, taking good care of your vintage and antique jewelry from Lang will enhance its beauty and extend its lifespan. We encourage you to have your jewelry checked and cleaned by us or by your trusted local jeweler every six months, to ensure that each piece is in good wearable condition with all gemstones in place. It’s not uncommon for stones to loosen over time, and it’s much easier to tighten a loose stone than to replace a lost one! As stated in our Repair Policy, we strongly recommend that you allow us to perform any repairs, since our jewelers are specialists in restoring vintage and antique jewelry.
